2012 AD – the end of the World?

It is not often I go and watch movie alone or with my family. This may be the 10th time (or less) in our 20 years of marriage. So we went and some of you readers may also have seen this show “2012” and I am sure you have formed some conclusion after watching it. To me, the show reminds me of a song I learned in my scouting days, entitled:

O Sinner Man.

Chorus:

“O sinner man, where will you run to, (3X)

All on that day.

Run to the rocks, rock will you hide me, (3X)

All on that day.

Run to the sea, the sea’s a boiling (3X)

All on that day.”

Run to the Lord, Lord won’t you help me> (3X)

All on that day.

The idea of the song is, we have no place to hide or go when the world ends, except to the Lord.

The show is based on the prediction of the Mayans that the world will end in 2012. As such, those who know and are aware of it can spend much money and make preparation (?) to escape this big calamity.

They built big submarines shaped like floating vessels (I saw three) to save some of humanity. Some men paid huge sum of money to buy, but physical salvation. There are signs everywhere as the world heats up and finally earthquakes, fire and flooding up to the highest mountain ranges near to the Himalayas. Yahoo! A new civilization for those who knew, were prepared and probably many rich could then multiply and replenish the earth again. Is the world going to end in this way?

Brethren, if it is the end of the world, will there be any physical salvation? Will salvation be by water? Will the earth remain? Let us examine the Scriptures and see what the Scriptures say.

The first thought that comes to mind is that the end of the world is connected to the 2nd coming of Christ ( I Cor. 15:23-24; 2 Pet. 3:10). And there will be no signs, for He will “come as a thief in the night” ( I Thess 5:2; Rev. 16:15) No one will know the exact day or time (Matt 24:36)

Secondly, what will happen when Christ returns? The Bible reveals that the dead IN Christ will rise first and then those that are living will meet the Lord in the air (I Thess. 4:16-17). This is a literal and bodily resurrection, as the body will be changed “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye” from corruption to incorruption, from dishonor to glory, from weakness to power and from natural body to spiritual body (I Cor. 15:42-44; 51, 52). What kind of body will we have? A new body (I Cor. 15:35-38), “…..and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” (I John 3:1-2 ).

Thirdly, the Holy Scriptures spell out plainly that there will be a judgment. This is a general judgment for ALL. The purpose: “……that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad” (2 Cor. 5:10), and to enable us to have an opportunity to defend ourselves if we disagree with the judgment (reward or punishment) of the Lord. This is implied in Matthew 25:31-46.

Finally, after the judgment has taken place, Jesus will deliver the Kingdom back to God (I Cor. 15:23-24). So brethren, do not miss the journey by missing the “flight.” To ensure that you are on board the “flight” (and not some submarine-like floating vessels) we must be IN the Kingdom. This calls for stewards (Christians) to be faithful and fruitful “…….. then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory” (I Cor. 15:54 -56) and the righteous believers will dwell with God for evermore. “For these words are true and faithful.” (II Pet. 3:13-14, Rev 21:1-5). The earth that we know shall be burned up and the heavens shall pass away and all the elements that we see shall be melted with fervent heat.

This is the picture painted by the Holy Word of God with regards to the end of the world. It will not be destroyed by flood again. It will not end without the coming of Christ. It will not end without the resurrection. There will be a bodily change. It will not end without judgment. All will know when the world ends. I t will be a noisy end and everyone will know (I Thess 4:16; 2 Pet. 3:10; Jude 14-15) It will not be a symbolic end like the show 2012 as the world would have us believed.

Some Christians mentioned to me that if you go to some parts of China, there will be opportunity to be saved. Some of my friends think that this show is quite real, that it can happen that way. Brethren, there will be no salvation in China, in the Himalayas, not even the rocks of Gibraltar can save us. Because on that day, the world will be on fire and EVERYTHING will be melted: – the earth, the heavens, all ships, submarines and planes.

Beloved, believed not every show, teaching, or doctrine with regards to the end of the world. The Bible is right. Let God be true and all men liars. We know when the world ends, and when we know it, it is too late. Do something for yourself and your loved ones while you can.
