There’s Work to Do

By Leow Yew Chong

The brethren who used to meet every Sunday in Taman Tun Dr Ismail at the home of Sis Nalini moved to new premises at Damansara Perdana on 26 February 2017. Evening worship continues at 5.30pm.

This outreach work had its genesis from the Klang church planning session when it was agreed we look into starting a new congregation in the Kepong area. We had our first Bible study on 1 April 2009 in a rented shop near Metro Kepong.

The Sunday evening worship commenced on 1 January 2012 at the home of Sis Nalini. Hence, the brethren have been worshipping at her home for the past five years. We are extremely grateful to Sis Nalini and her children for allowing us to use the home all these years, and bearing with our idiosyncrasies. May the Lord bless this wonderful sister and continue to shine His face upon her.

The new place where we’ll be worshipping belongs to Sis Chan Ai Cheng and Ai Fong of Subang CoC, and we’re thankful for their kind generosity in renting the place to us below market rental value. Minimal renovation was required at this place, and we praise God for it. The place comes with three rooms and is air-conditioned. The auditorium can comfortably seat 50 people and it was well maintained by the previous tenant. There’s even a refrigerator in a nice cosy pantry. Looking at this place, it reminds one of God’s promise to the children of Israel when they were about to enter the Promised Land.

“So it shall be, when the LORD your God brings you into the land of which He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give you large and beautiful cities which you did not build, houses full of all good things, which you did not fill, hewn-out wells which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant (Deut 6:10-11a).

With this new place, it feels as though a similar great blessing has  been given by God. It came well-appointed and renovated: partitioned rooms, nice wallpapers, carpets, PVC flooring, air-conditioned, pantry equipped with refrigerator and water dispenser. The LORD God reminded the children of Israel not to forget that it is the LORD who provided all those good things in the promised land. They were required to fear, serve and honour Him.

Then beware, lest you forget the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. You shall fear the LORD your God and serve Him, and shall take oaths in His name.  (Deut 6:12-13)

Upon being reminded of God’s promise, the children of Israel crossed into the promised land. Under the leadership of Joshua, they fought against the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites , the Canaanites, the Hivites and the Jebusites. They fought hard defeating all these people who an earlier generation of Israelites said were strong, whose cities were fortified and very large, with men of great stature and giants in their midst.

Damansara Perdana is very nice and pleasant. We have  established a foothold there. However, the locality looks daunting too. There are more than 30 condominium blocks; people who live in these high-rise condominiums are surrounded by guards and security. They seemed to be well-to-do and of the upper strata income. See the similarities?

However, these 30 blocks translate into 3,000 units or approximately 12,000 souls living there. Just as the people in the city of Nineveh who did not know the right from the left, these souls in Damansara Perdana may be in a similar situation. Therefore the field is ripe unto harvest, souls are calling. Soldiers are required to march bravely around the walls of Jericho. Priests are required to blow the horns. The people, men and women, are needed to shout down the walls of Jericho. Will you be the soldier, priest, men and women for the conquest of Damansara Perdana for the Lord?

Brethren, please do join us in this great work. Keep us in your prayers that God will grant all of us the boldness and wisdom to speak His word to the community residing in these condominiums and surrounding area. A new approach and paradigm is required. Currently, there are 16 of us who meet regularly for worship and we look forward to further increase our numbers with God’s blessing.

I have given you a land for which you did not labor, and cities which you did not build, and you dwell in them; you eat of the vineyards and olive groves which you did not plant.’  “Now therefore, fear the LORD, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD! (Josh 24:13-14)
